Stephen is a problem solver who leaves no stone un-turned until a solution is found.
A student of Ben Hogan's 'The Modern Fundamentals of Golf' and 'The Golfing Machine' by Homer Kelly, in recent years have transformed himself both in body and spirit - trust him with your game and he'll release the authentic you.
A qualified engineer Stephen is uniquely placed, having combined the last 40 years immersed in golf and engineering, to deeply understand and bring to life the content of these books. He is able to communicate these learnings in a way which can be easiliy understood by his students.
His passion for engineering and learning has led to investing in the Quintic Putting System, which gives the most comprehensive putting feedback of any system on the planet. Regularly used by the worlds top professionals including Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Danny Willet.
Stephen is Central Scotland's only licensee for the Quintic Ball Roll System. The system provides gives the golfer detailed information about his stroke - such as the angle of the putter face at impact and ball roll. Using this critical information Stephen can help in a simple and straight forward way to guide the players to either aid the selection of the most suitable putter for his stroke or where necessary improve the players technical putting stroke
Stephen has lived and breathed golf for the last 50 years. In Jan 2020 he returns to the Professional game 40 years after he held the role of Assistant Professional at Turnhouse GC in 1978.
Good enough to have competed in the 1984 Open Pre Qualifying, he turns Professional playing off a 2 handicap and is on a personal journey of game improvement since a serious illness in 2016 took his handicap to an all time high of 6.
His continued improvement he puts down to his recent golf teaching discoveries of how to make his students be "the best learners they can be". He has a real desire to compete on the Seniors Tour in the coming years.
Stephen's unbridled passion for learning continues at a pace, having recently completed his Stage 3 World Golf Teaching Federation Coaching Qualification under Peter Hudson with further NLP and Mind Game practitioner learning’s being progressed.
A student also of the "art of learning" legends, namely Fred Shoemaker of “Extraordinary Golf” and Tim Galloway of “The Inner Game of Golf and perhaps the greatest golf mind of them all Ben Hogan.
Mentor to Aspiring Tour Pro’s
Stephen is also uniquely placed to mentor aspiring young Tour Pros. Between 1988 and 2003 he advised aspiring Amateurs and Pro players under the TEAM SCOTLAND GOLF® umbrella when delivering a prodigious level of success. Between 1995 and 2002, players under his guidance won 27 major 72 hole Pro tournaments, achieved a win and a third place finish in the European Tour School Qualifying, won 7 Pro Order of Merits Titles, plus three young Pros made it through the challenging qualifying stages to play in three Major Championships.
In 2008 Stephen published Pro Golf Secrets Revealed a fun educational book to help guide those with a desire to make it to the very top of the game. Ian Poulter was kind enough to support the publication and wrote the forward for the book.
